A smile keeps stress away. Even better if you can laugh until your belly splits as often as you can. Trying to smile as much as possible is the second tool everyone has for Stress relief. The more you smile the less you’re stressed, the more you’re stressed the less you smile. The wonderful thing about smiling is that it works even if you’re faking it a little.

Try it for a moment now: put a smile on your face and stick it there, wait for a while and see for yourself if your spirit, and mood, gets lifted. It will in a couple of minutes. Laughing works even better because it not only discharges a lot of tension but it releases many useful and relaxing hormones throughout our body working perfectly for stress relief. That’s why people used to live their day with a smile on their face sustain stress better and live longer; it’s all due to the amazing effect of a simple smile.

Beside its stress killing ability a smile also helps in human interactions as everyone prefers a happy face over a frowning one. But how can you put a smile on your face at command even when the day is pretty hard?

First you need to find something which puts automatically a smile on your face. It can be remembering a happy special moment of your past, a joke, a picture, a line of a movie, whatever makes you smile automatically. Then try to keep that emotion as long as you can. As I said above also faking a little can work as after a while your smile becomes authentic even if you’re not thinking about something specific. Given that we smile when we’re happy if we smile first we get happy second. Try it and see for yourself.

For laughing what works best, beside having with you a friend good at telling jokes, is watching a funny movie. Better if you have more than one to get variety and avoid being too used to one until it loses its powerful effects. It can be Benny Hill or David Letterman or whoever else makes you laugh all the times. A site like YouTube can be an almost infinite source of funny material you can use when you need to push stress away. I would recommend you to have a laughing session at least once a week but twice would be definitely better. Even better would be to have a good laugh every day.

The benefit of smiling often beside Stress relief.

If you’re able to smile a lot during the day it will definitely help to take your life easier so that you’ll be able able to deal better with everyday’s challenges and again keep the level of stress low. Try for a day to smile as often as you can and see if in the evening you feel cooler and better than normal. It seems too simple to work but the benefits of smiling toward stress are really amazing. If you do it.

Smiling is the second Stress relief tool to improve your life, what do you think?

Norman Cousins healed himself of a terminal illness with laughter. I smile frequently and have a hug and laughter every single day as my s/o and I have a good sense of humor. However, I want more belly aching laughter and will be renting movies to watch. I am on a mission to completely let stress leave my body and laughter is one way of doing this. It's amazing, I don't have personal stress in my life as we simplified around here, but I create internal stress with my impatience at times.

@Violetsun Well Marie, simplifying life is one of the best thing someone can do to reduce stress but a bit of stress is normal even in the most relaxed ones. Stress is part of life so even if it can't be eliminated it must be kept at a healthy level. As you do.  And I'm pretty sure your mission will succeed. These times I'm using Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fusion as my preferred belly laughing movies but also The Nutty Professor is a good choice. :)

It's not that easy to laugh when life hits or health decreases but really for this reason it's so effective when done, laughing is not only a good antidote to stress but also for many other issues. Also life can be better handled with a smile, there is always time to go ballistic. ;)

I am going to check out The Nutty Professor, I am already smiling. hehe.  When I lost my hearing, I had moments of pure peace and contenment in the midst of the sorrow. I guess my ability to live a mindful life helps but laughter is a great antidote too. I am  very interested in hypnosis and to this day regret I haven't been able to enjoy a session as I know that all wholeness and changes starts with the mind, and hypnosis is a wonderful tool.

@Violetsun In my humble opinion the best film of Eddy Murhpy, together with Doctor Dolittle probably. Your attitude to life is surely one of the best around Marie but as you say laughter helps anyway. For the Hypnosis thing I'm working on it. ;)
