There are two simple things you can do to feel and be healthy, energized and stronger and if you’re not already doing them you can be more or less sure that it will be pretty hard to achieve results. They are the building blocks of better health, so to speak. Diaphragmatic breathing and fresh air..

Oxygen and Diaphragmatic Breathing

The first one is taking in air deeply and calmly so that with every breath you take you empty your lungs from all wastes and fill them with, possibly, clean air. Now, I’ve already written about Diaphragmatic Breathing but really it’s the first thing every Naturopath asks to every new client, “How do you breathe?”. It’s the first step toward better health. Diaphragmatic breathing will improve enormously your health, quicken the exchange of air and wastes, increase your level of energy and you will give to your cells the oxygen they so need to work well. Plus, as a little bonus, deep breathing keeps you always calm and relaxed all the time. As I’ve already said it’s a kind of complete healing art in itself.

Also it doesn’t require any special equipment, you just have to do it. Remember, diaphragmatic breathing is the first and most fundamental step to better health.

Nature and Fresh Air

The second one is go outdoor and get some real Sun on your skin and fresh air in your lungs. Now, I know that everywhere in the world people screams about the Sun and its dangerous effects on human skin. We as human beings have lived for hundreds thousands years under the Sun and now in the latest twenty year or so it has become a threat to our health. Yes, I know about Ozone layer and UV rays but I’ve always found interesting to see that this danger has come out after thousands of suntan creams have been created.

Pretty timely right? Well, I’m not a doctor nor a scientist so they might be right and now the Sun instead of being a creator of life and our main source of Vitamin D which protects us from osteoporosis and Alzheimer is a threat for health and you need to buy a lot of suntan creams to protect yourself and maybe go to a tan center to get that healthy coloured skin. And spend your hard earned money. But for better health I prefer real Sun and Fresh Air on my face.

They might be right but what I do know is that for diaphragmatic breathing to be efficient you need to breathe clean and fresh air possibly unpolluted and this can be done only going outside. In nature. Recycled air doesn’t work. And if you’re scared about the Sun wear a hat. Did you ever notice that many old people who have been under the Sun for all their life don’t have any skin disease? Surely the Sun and UV were not as strong as they are today but they usually were outdoor all day, yet no problems with the Sun and their skin. Isn’t that interesting? But surely it isn’t all made for the money. Do you know that in Italy until 20 years ago the only suntan cream used was Olive Oil and that everyone was happy with it? That’s pretty interesting as it seemed to work great.

Remember, we were made to live within nature and not inside a cubicle of concrete breathing recycled air under neon lights. For a better health we must stay outdoor as much as we can because that’s what we’ve made for thousands years, we weren’t made to stay all day in front of a screen inside a room.

I just wish those ingredients on suntan creams could be understandable.

Anyway for better health learn diaphragmatic breathing and  stay outdoor; and if you’re concerned about the Sun go out in the late afternoon and have a walk in a park or something like that. It’s a good alternative, what matters is being outdoor possibly at the very least one hour a day. Deep breathing is wonderful in itself wherever you do it but in nature it has magical effects for your health.

Note: if you have skin problems check with your doctor first.

What do you think about having a better health just by doing deep breathing and going outside in nature? Do you agree that these are two building blocks of health? Can you add your experience on the benefits of diaphragmatic breathing?

Hi Andrea,

Very smart advice! I really notice a difference when I practice Yoga breathing. It give me more energy and clears my thinking. As for the sun, I have had skin damage and some squamish cells removed so I'm careful although I do miss basking for hours. They say it takes years for the damage to appear and if you're middle aged or later you shouldn't worry as much! I do have a pretty good article on sunscreen ingredients if your interested. It's at http://tinyurl.com/8y24ulw. Cheers!

@SavvyExaminer Hi Hillary, sorry for my late reply but your comment was caught by the spam filter of Livefyre. This comment system really rocks. Anyway thanks for adding your thoughts and I surely agree that Yoga breathing being a deep breathing technique works great for health. Being that breathing is the first and the last thing we do in our lives then doing it correctly is of utmost importance, and extremely effective. If you've had skin damages then you're surely right in being careful about the Sun, but you can still have a walk in nature, maybe when the Sun is down. Outdoor there are better chances to breathe clean air.  I'll have a look at your article, thanks for the link. :)
