“Look into my eyes!” But does Hypnotherapy work?
Yes if what you want to achieve is within reason. Does Hypnotherapy work is a question which gets asked many times and even if my answer is definitely positive it is not a kind of magical thing which can fulfill every desire. Hypnosis is a science and a real and serious tool but not a kind of Genie of the lamp, it can help you to achieve almost everything and even increase your chances to heal your illnesses but clearly within reason.
How does Hypnotherapy work?
While it is certainly true that in many cases Hypnotherapy can work in just one session most of the times hypnotic suggestions need a bit of time to work. First the client must become comfortable with the Hypnotherapist and develop trust that he can help him, then the client has to learn how to relax deeply. After having done this then everything goes smooth as for Hypnotherapy to work when deep relaxation is achieved 80 percent of the job is done, so to speak, and both your Conscious and Subconscious Mind are listening and ready to act.
The most important thing though is that the client, that is you, has to accept the fact that Hypnotherapy works and that every human being has the power to improve his life, to heal himself and to achieve his desired outcomes. At the end doesn’t our Mind rule everything? The Mind and the Body?
So Hypnotherapy does work, but why?
Because it’s the single most useful tool to link together our Conscious and Subconscious Mind allowing us to focus our mind powers to achieve whatever reasonable result we want. No other techniques has the features of Hypnosis, be its simplicity or wide range of uses. Actually it can be used almost for everything.
It takes time to make changes, and if modifying your way of thinking or a bad habit can be achieved in just one Hypnotherapy session changing your body, boosting your Immune System or increasing your regenerating ability usually requires more time and more than one session. Anyway Hypnotherapy can work even in these cases. If your mind controls your body then obviously your mind can help your body to heal. But it requires some more time then as an example controlling your anger or improving your memory.
Having said that keep in mind that Hypnotherapy can’t solve everything every time. Some times there is nothing to do. Even medicine sometimes can’t help. It can always improve the situation, how the client feels and how the client can face what’s happening. Hypnosis is always worth trying, there is nothing to loose and always something to earn. At least it can give you a chance, and sometimes one chance is enough and all that is needed.
The power of the Subconscious Mind is great and sometimes it can achieve results considered impossible by medicine. Some people get healthy again when medicine has stated that they had no chance to survive thanks to the power of their minds.
Hypnosis when it can’t solve the problem it can always improve the situation and increase your chances.
So, does Hypnotherapy work? Surely, if you trust it and always within reason. It always deserves a chance.
What’s your opinion?

For most of my life I have wanted to be hypnotized, it’s something that intrigues me as I see the potential of using it as a tool for well being in the different areas of our lives. The mind is indeed super powerful. Just think of men and women with multiple personalities; they develop medical conditions such as allergies under one personality and release it under the other; even their eye color changes. I read the eye phenomenon in a book by Dr. David R Hawkins who is a very spiritual psychiatrist, so I believe it. Hypnosis is indeed a blessing. One of these days, I hope to be able to hypnotize myself. If I could hear normally, I would be hiring a hypnotherapist therapist in a New York minute.
@Violetsun Does it mean that a New York minute is shorter than rest of the world minute?
You know Marie, Hypnosis or Hypnotism is the best tool for self improvement. No other technique is so simple and fast to perform and let’s not forget long lasting or permanent results. To give an example to achieve a deep level of relaxation with meditation you need weeks (?) of training while going to a Hypnotist you can have the same result in one hour. Really, if there is a kind of magical bullet in the field of Self Improvement this is Hypnotism , in its different forms and approaches.
But you raise a very interesting point, how can Hypnotism help those who have hearing problems? Something that I’ll be addressing soon, thanks to your hint. After the habits post I mean.
Thanks for your always useful hints
Have a great day!
Wonderful! Looking forward to your next articles.
Well, I personally think that hypnotherapy only works if it is used in conjunction with other therapy methods, including counselling and psychotherapy, to help deal with the problems at the heart of the issue, to ensure it doesn’t resurface again. Also, it was estimated that 85% of people tend to respond at some level to clinical hypnotherapy, which is an excellent success rate. It is of course dependent on how open someone is to the therapy, how confident he or she is in it and what kind of results they want to achieve…
@Payday Advance Now I’m in a hurry but tomorrow morning I’ll give you a better answer as your comment requires a bit of time. Thanks and see you tomorrow.
@Payday Advance I see your point but in my opinion Hypnosis and Psychology are two different things. While Psychology aims mainly at discovering the reasons, usually in the client’s past, for a certain behavior Hypnotism aims at changing the behavior from now on. At least that’s how I see it. There are two different approaches too as Psychology usually takes a long time to work while Hypnosis aims at solving the problem as soon as possible. Both works and what must also be considered is that what the client likes is what the client finds effective. Hypnotherapy works on its own and needs no other therapies, obviously within its field of competence. Have a great weekend and thanks for the comment.
Hi
I think that anyone seeing a psychologist or hypnotherapist want the same goal from their therapist and that is to change their life today and for all their tomorrows. A psychologist may spend some time looking at past relationships and behaviours in order to understand the drives and urges that have led to a particular current issue. A hypnotherapist may at times explore the same aspects of a person’s history in regression. A hypnotherapist would then utilise a reprocessing technique to help change the emotional response around those past events and a psychologist would hope that conscious insight into those past events might enable the patient to understand themselves better and be able to make changes based on those new understandings. I agree that hypnotherapy is a brief process and it’s aim is to help people change as soon as possible and then to get on with living their lives.
Hi Steven, I’m sorry for being so late to answer to your kind comment. Clearly I agree with you; my opinion is that to deal with regressions it would be better if the Hypnotherapist is also a Psychologist as there can arise issues which are better handled by a professional. But if it’s better to look at the past instead of focusing in the future is still debatable, I personally don’t like the digging in the dirt approach as Hypnotherapy works well without looking at the past and if someone has hidden his or her reasons for a specific behavior so deep in their mind better send the client to a Psychologist. Imho.
Have a great week!
