Dr. Link Check Review: Link Checker for Bad and Broken Links

If you need a link checker for your website to search for broken links and blacklisted or bad links Dr. Link Check is surely a service you need. And you know you need it. While you have no control over sites linking to you what you link to does have importance and affects your reputation and search engine ranking. Keep in mind that I’m in no way an affiliate of Dr. Link Check, it’s just that their link checker is simply great.

Having outbound links from your website to sites which belong to the so called bad neighbourhood can seriously affect your own website. The same goes if you have broken links sending you nowhere. You can imagine what happens if you have both.

There are some services on the net but I think the best link checker for bad links is Dr. Link Check, and I’m going to tell you how it works. Also, given that this free web service is based in Germany we are talking about high quality here, at least this is my humble opinion. Just keep in mind that given that this is a beta service results in the future could even improve. Let’s just hope it remains free, or at least low priced. No, better free. You will find the link down the page.

Ok, let’s see how Dr. Link Check works.

  • You go over their website Dr. Link Check and it appears a template where you just have to write down the web address of your website and hit Start.

  • After a while a page opens with search results detailing Broken Links, Blacklisted Links, Internal Links and External Links.

  • Depending on how many links you have a couple of minutes or a little more and you have your results.

  • Check results and make your moves. If I find bad links I delete them. Better be safe than sorry applies also to the net.

When I las used Dr. Link Check I got as a result six bad links: zero blacklisted links and six broken links. Clicking on broken links I arrived at a page detailing all those links. The broken part was a link to using the email with the sharing button native to WordPress. I took away the option to use email and all broken links disappeared. This link checker is a good guy.

One last thing is that for now Dr. Link Check works on only 1000 links, meaning both internal and external with the external links just checked for existence and the internal links checked completely. Up to a total of 1000 links. Given that it’s free I think it’s fine anyway.

As I said above Dr. Link Check is a free service still in beta mode but I think that as a link checker it gives pretty good results and is a very useful tool for every website owner. Bad links can affect your search engine ranking and your reputation. Better check your website once a week and be on watch for broken links and bad neighbourhood links.

What do you think? Is it a useful service or not?

Thanks to you Greg for commenting and sorry for the delay but your comment have been caught by the spam filter. Anyway I've used Xenu but really I don't catch with it, at least for now. I see what you mean but I think that from time to time using a link checker is good, especially if it's free like Dr. Lincheck. Better safe than sorry right? :)
