Hypnotize Yourself: How to Relax at Will
Knowing how to relax at will is one of the best thing everyone can do, not only because it’s the first requisite to be able to hypnotize yourself but also because in the world we’re living where almost everyone is a bit stressed it’s an ability which can really change your life. If you know how to relax when you want you can get into a state of calmness in a snap. Also when you’re calm and relaxed you are in a particularly receptive state and great changes can take place in a very short time. That’s the reason why relaxation is the basis of Hypnosis and that’s why to show you how to relax I’m going to tell you how an hypnotic induction is done. At the end I guess you want a fast way to relax right?
Hypnosis is a relaxation based therapy and the hypnotic induction is aimed to achieve a deep state of relaxation, also called a state of trance when the mind is deeply relaxed but at the same time very receptive to intentions, or positive suggestions, or positive affirmations. After having reached the trance state there is the therapy part of Hypnosis. Without knowing how to relax there is simply no Self Hypnosis.
So to hypnotize yourself you must first be able to enter the state of deep relaxation which is Hypnosis; the first and most important step. With practice you’ll be able to relax completely faster and deeper and this will also increase the effectiveness of any hypnotic technique.
This hypnotic induction is the starting point of every following technique. No relaxation and no benefits.
The Hypnosis session, and the Self Hypnosis one too, can be divided in five parts:
- Preparation
- Hypnosis Induction
- Deepening and Relaxation
- Therapy
- Coming back to the normal state of full Awareness
Let’s see in details how the hypnotic induction works. Keep in mind that if you need it just opening your eyes you’ll be instantly back to full awareness. No need to worry about getting stuck in the trance state, for what I know it just happens on stage shows.
Preparation to hypnotize yourself:
Find a place where you won’t be disturbed for half an hour, or an hour if you can. Half an hour is enough anyway, get a comfortable position but not so much that you fall asleep, don’t cross your arms or legs, take away your shoes and loosen your belt or tie. In a word feel as comfortable as you can. You can either lie down or sit on a good chair.
Time to Hypnotize Yourself
Beginning:
Take three deep belly breaths to relax yourself and release tensions, close your eyes and imagine that with every breath you take you are breathing in calmness and breathing out tensions and that as soon as you do it your body begins to relax and a kind of relaxation wave begins to spread from your toes to your head. “Breath in, breath out releasing tensions and feeling a wave of relaxation going from your toes up”. Go on breathing and relaxing while relaxation goes up through your feet to your lower leg and up. Go on until all your body is deeply and completely relaxed from toes to head.
Deepening and Relaxation:
Take ten belly breaths mentally counting from 10 to 1 thinking “Relax” while breathing out: 10 “Relax”, 9 “Relax”, and so on. At the count of 1 say to yourself “I’m as deeply relaxed as I can be today”. Remember a time, or imagine to, when you were deeply relaxed, safe and felt extremely good. Maybe you were on a beach, or a mountain lake, walking in a forest with birds all around. Feel free to remember or imagine whatever makes you deeply relaxed. Enjoy for a while that wonderful feeling of relaxation and how wonderfully well you are feeling.
Therapy:
This is when you’ll use specific intentions or positive affirmations to deal with a specific issue. but just use it for relaxation now. It will make feel extremely good just on its own. You’ll see that you’ve never been really relaxed until you enjoy an hypnotic induction, even better if made by a trained Hypnotherapist.
Coming back to full Awareness:
After having enjoyed for a while that wonderful feeling of relaxation, or having used positive affirmations for therapy, begin counting up from 1 to 10, this time mentally counting when you breathe in. At 5 begin to slightly move your body, at 8 open your eyes smoothly, at 10 be back to full awareness.
End of the hypnotic induction. You have just seen how to hypnotize yourself successfully.
Now you know how to hypnotize yourself and how to relax at will. Mastering this simple hypnotic technique will let you achieve every reasonable result you want as the hypnotic induction is the basis of all hypnotic techniques.
Conclusion:
Relaxation is the basis for everything in the field of Hypnosis and there will be no or little results until you can easily reach the trance state and be very relaxed. Given that entering relaxation and the trance state becomes easier and better with practice you just have to do it to become proficient. Once a day is good, twice is better.
Also given that being able to deeply relax at will is a therapy in itself especially for stress reduction, the more relaxed you are the less stressed you feel. Really this is the one hypnotic technique you have to master before even thinking about doing something else.
And now, what do you think?
Violetsun Thanks Marie, it means that I've reached my goal to deliver information in a friendly way. Otherwise I couldn't be the Friendly Hypnotist. ;)
But I'm working to become better. You always enlight my day and give me a positive boost. Let me know how it goes with the hypnotic induction script, I know it works but a feedback is always welcomed. And I just can't wait to see your blog.
Have a good night and a wonderful shining day! Thanks again.

Have just printed this as it complement the article I just read about positive affirmation and the importance of relaxing. I like that it's to the point, not overly complicated with zillions of steps as some self hypnosis scripts I have seen elsewhere and in books which actually distract me. Will try this script later today.
Going off to sleep, it's the a.m. on my side of the fence. Have a great day! :)
